The head of the Kurdistan Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center said: Keeping more than 16,000 plant samples in the "Herbarium" of this center is one of the honors and valuable activities of the province's Agricultural Research Center.
According to Kurdewari news agency, Bayazid Yousefi said: This number of plant samples in the herbarium of the agricultural research center of the province has been registered internationally.

A herbarium is a collection of pressed and dried plants that are organized in a special way and with a specific classification system, in other words, each herbarium specimen is a document indicating the existence of a species in a specific geographical area and also a reference specimen for all It is considered scientific research.

In fact, the herbarium is a kind of museum that can be used as a raw information bank; Each plant sample contains information about the habitat, characteristics of the plant at the time of collection, and representative of the taxon to which it belongs, as well as other information recorded on its label.
The head of the Kurdistan Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center pointed out that effective research and measures have been carried out by the researchers and academic staff members of this center and added: Thanks to the efforts of the researchers of this center, three new varieties of wheat, 2 new varieties of chickpeas have been developed. And a new Spruce variety has been introduced this year.

The head of the Kurdistan Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center continued: Protection and maintenance of the collection of strawberry, grape, walnut, rose and medicinal plants are also done in this center.

Stating that we have obtained four promising strawberry hybrid genotypes that will be introduced in the near future, Yousefi said: Three new grape genotypes have been modified by the researchers of this center and are being introduced.
The Kurdistan Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center consists of four departments, including 2 research sub-departments, a research-executive unit, 2 support units and three stations and 2 research bases with different specializations within the framework of the policies and programs of the Research, Education and Promotion Organization. Agriculture is responsible for research in the field of agriculture, natural resources and animal sciences.

Using 120 human resources, including 19 faculty members and 15 non-academic researchers, this center is engaged in applied research in related specialized fields.
